Razer Presents Its New Allies To Advance Sustainability

Razer, the world’s leading lifestyle brand for gamers, announced its collaboration agreements with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and Panerai for this year’s RazerCon event, a virtual celebration for all “For Gamers, By Gamers.” Millions of viewers will be able to tune in to stream alongside Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan in a keynote presentation packed with surprise guests, exciting presentations and company news on sustainability issues.

“We have high ambitions around sustainability, but we also know that while there are many things we cannot do, we cannot do everything alone,” said Min-Liang Tan, Co-Founder and CEO of Razer. “This is why this collaboration is so important to Razer, and we are very excited to announce our partnerships with Underwriters Laboratories and Panerai on two important initiatives that will not only benefit consumers, but the planet as well.”

Standardize organic production
One of the announcements from RazerCon2021 that has the potential to transform the industry was Razer joining forces with Underwriters Laboratories, the world’s largest nonprofit security science and certification company . Razer and Underwriters Laboratories have partnered to develop product category rules for gaming products.

The reason for this lies in the fact that the industry currently lacks a standardized way to measure a green product, which is why UL and Razer have teamed up to provide one . Under this partnership, Razer and UL will initiate an industry-wide effort to identify key environmental impact indicators that all manufacturers should measure when seeking an Environmental Product Declaration for gaming products.

The two companies will work with stakeholders to create a comprehensive and objective way for manufacturers around the world to measure the impact of their manufacturing processes on the environment. This will foster stronger solutions that enable manufacturers to integrate sustainable practices into every step of the production process.

The introduction of this Type III Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) ecolabel will allow consumers to make more informed decisions and know that the gaming products they use to enjoy video games and their lifestyle are also an advantage for the environment . This is in line with Razer’s commitment to share and communicate the carbon footprint of its new products by 2022.

Razer also reinforced its commitment to using recycled or recyclable materials for all of its products by 2030. This includes incorporating PCR plastic into all hardware products and adhering to green product design.

Union to save the oceans
Razer and luxury watchmaker Panerai have come together under a shared commitment to promote ocean preservation through the slogan “Make Time for our Ocean,” bringing together RazerCon viewers to that end.

As part of this year’s campaign, Razer and Panerai have committed to improving knowledge of the oceans and will together support a cause that will be revealed in March 2022 . The keynote reached a climax when a limited edition watch made from sustainable material was announced that will hit the market during 2022.

During the keynote address, Panerai CEO Jean-Marc Pontroue, joined by the brand’s sustainability ambassadors, Mike Horn, Jeremy Jauncey and Li Yifeng, in attendance to inspire and let viewers know how they can help. caring for the oceans . The topic of the protection of the seas was further expanded with a specific workshop led by Francesca Santoro, Program Specialist at UNESCO’s Regional Office for Science and Culture, allowing viewers to learn about the importance of the oceans, current environmental threats and what can be done for their care and protection.

Close to saving 1 million trees
Last year at RazerCon 2020, Razer introduced Sneki Snek as its sustainability mascot , as well as its collaboration with Conservation International (CI) to save trees around the world. As part of this collaboration, Razer asked his fans to join Sneki Snek and help him save 100,000 trees. To do so, Razer released the eco-friendly Sneki Snek plush and for every plush sold, ten trees were saved . Sneki Snek fans smashed that goal in just a few weeks, in an incredible testament to the power of the Razer community.

Today, Razer has set out to save 1 million trees and celebrates each 100,000 tree-saved stretch with a new collection of Sneki Snek merchandise . Recently, Razer surpassed 700,000 trees saved and has launched the Sneki Snek fridge magnets. Fans eagerly awaiting the upcoming Sneki Snek products were delighted to experience the unveiling of the latest 3 products, which will be a fleece blanket upon reaching 800,000 trees, a keyboard key upon reaching 900,000 trees, and a hoodie on the 1 million milestone.

A year after its introduction, Sneki Snek now also stars in his own cartoon series that teaches Razer fans about sustainability. Each episode of the six that make up the series will present a different environmental problem , in addition to empowering viewers with green habits that can be adopted. One of the world’s largest asset managers, Franklin Templeton, who is sponsoring the show’s first season and also contributing to Sneki Snek’s cause to save trees, partnered with Razer to improve environmental education.
